Westville High School presented its spring sports awards last week. Ali Hisick and Preston Lake each received the Blackhawk Senior Award.

LP American Legion team rolls
La Porte Post 83 Hamon Gray earned its second win of the American Legion baseball season by routing Chesterton Post 170, 23-3, on Wednesday night on the road. La Porte got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning with a leadoff hit by Luke Swistek, and capitalizing on free bases. La Porte scored six runs in the first. Pitchers Alex Contreas, Caleb McGuire and Swistek kept the Chesterton bats at bay, not allowing an earned run in nine innings. Swistek, Spenser Noveroske, Nick Lemon, Andrew Huizar, Dominic Miller, Luke Poulin, and Caeden George all had multiple hits. McGuire, Contreas, Collin Howard, Seth Kupress, and Noah Christian all added hits. La Porte plays again this weekend in Kokomo at the Post 6 Summer's First Pitch Tournament. La Porte’s next home game is Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Chesterton Post 170 at Ron Reed Field.
Dunes Club beach volleyball clinic, leagues
Dunes Volleyball Club is offering a beach volleyball clinic and leagues this summer. No prior beach experience is needed. The clinic and leagues will be at the Dunes Events Center, 110 Clear Lake Blvd., La Porte.
Youth Development Skills Clinic is for players that want to improve their overall skill, while also learning the mechanics of the outdoor game. It’s Mondays & Thursdays, June 10-June 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. It’s for eighth-graders and under. Cost is $15/night or $40/full session. The High School Sand Quads League is for any player (male/female) that wishes to play either with friends or be placed on a team on site. It’s on Tuesdays, from June 11-July 30 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $40/person for a full session.
The Adult Sand Quads League is for any 18+ player (male/female) that wishes to play either with friends or be placed on a team on site. It’s on Wednesdays, June 12-July 31. Timeslot range is from 5:30-7:45 p.m. Cost is $40/person for a full session. Register online at www.dunes.org.
Relay for Life of La Porte County golf scramble
The Relay for Life of La Porte County will host a golf scramble on June 15 at Beechwood Golf Course in La Porte. Registration is at noon with a lite lunch. A shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. and will have a four-man scramble format. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. with team awards and a cash bar. Cost is $75 per golfer or $300 per team. LP boys hoops camp next week
La Porte High School will host its second annual boys basketball summer camp for kids ages Kindergarten through eighth grade Monday, June 10-Thursday, June 13. The K-4 group meets from 8-9:30 a.m., followed by the 5-8 group from 10-11:30 a.m. Instructors will be members of the Slicers coaching staff and current players. Registration is $40, $35 for each additional child. The fee includes a one-of-a-kind shirt, available only to camp participants. Meet Rusty, win TV at House of Hope outing
Rusty the RailCat will be on hand at the House of Hope baseball field, 907 Chicago St., Michigan City, from 11 a.m. to noon on June 15. The first 25 people in attendance receive free hot dogs and snack packs. A 32-inch TCL Roku TV will also be raffled off. Tickets are available at the Michigan Township Trustee Office, 2601 E. RailCats clinic July 22
The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced they will offer a Legends for Youth free baseball clinic for kids, hosted by the MLB Players Alumni Association, July 22 at U.S. Steel Yard. The clinic will be presented by Gary native and former Major League pitcher Latroy Hawkins, Home Field Advantage and the RailCats.
