Special Olympics La Porte County Golf Outing Saturday
There’s a need for golfers for Special Olympics La Porte County’s 16th annual golf outing Saturday at Legacy Hills Golf Club in La Porte. Registration begins at noon and a shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost is $70 per golfer, which includes a round of golf, cart, two drinks and one sandwich. They’re having a silent auction and money prizes for the winners. All money raised stays in La Porte County.
Relay for Life of La Porte County golf scramble Saturday
The Relay for Life of La Porte County will host a golf scramble Saturday at Beechwood Golf Course in La Porte. Registration is at noon with a lite lunch. A shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. and will have a four-man scramble format. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. with team awards and a cash bar. Cost is $75 per golfer or $300 per team. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for this event. Sign up at Beechwood Golf Course. Relay For Life is a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Annual Wiffle Ball tourney in New Carlisle
New Carlisle Hometown Days will host the 15th annual Wiffle®Ball Championship July 27-28. Pool play action begins July 27 at the New Prairie Little League complex with all teams guaranteed at least four games. The top 48 teams qualify for the July 28 Hometown Cup Playoffs, with the final four advancing to the Hometown Cup Finals at historic Migley Field. Registration is open until July 13 or until 80 teams are entered. Entry fee is $40 per team until June 29 and $80 after. Teams consist of four or five players. Dunes Volleyball Club Pre-Tryout Camp
Dunes Volleyball Club is offering a Pre-Tryout Camp this summer. It’s designed to prepare middle school players for school tryouts. Campers will work on basic volleyball fundamentals; passing, setting, hitting, serving and participate in tryout-oriented drills, game situation drills, and 6-on-6 games. The camp is at the Dunes Events Center, 110 Clear Lake Blvd., La Porte, from July 29-Aug. 1. The Veterans Camp is for girls and boys entering the seventh-eighth grade and is from 5:30-8 p.m. Pre-registration discount costs $65. Same day sign-up costs $75. The Rookies Camp is for girls and boys entering the fifth-sixth grade and is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Pre-registration discount costs $55. Same day sign-up costs $65.

McLain to appear in Three Oaks
The Biggest Little Baseball Museum and the Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, Mich., will host Denny McLain, baseball’s last 30-game winner, on June 22. The former Detroit Tiger, who won the American League MVP and Cy Young awards in 1968, when he went 31-6, will conduct an autograph session at the museum, located at 3 N. Elm St., from 9-11 a.m. At 11:30, he will appear on stage at the nearby Acorn Theater, where he will reminisce with fans about his teammates and the ‘68 world championship season. The presentation will be followed by another autograph session in the theater lobby. The $10 theater admission price includes a hot dog, unlimited soft drinks, and a box of Cracker Jack. RailCats clinic July 22
The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced they will offer a Legends for Youth free baseball clinic for kids, hosted by the MLB Players Alumni Association, July 22 at U.S. Steel Yard. The clinic will be presented by Gary native and former Major League pitcher Latroy Hawkins, Home Field Advantage and the RailCats.
