Perfect Crown Point wins La Porte Regional

Crown Point (28-0) won the Class 4A La Porte Girls Basketball Regional, topping Penn (25-1) 54-47 in overtime in a battle of unbeatens in Saturday night’s final. In the semifinals earlier on Saturday, the Kingsmen beat Plymouth 47-28 and the Bulldogs defeated Kankakee Valley 65-49.

Girls basketball semistate pairings announced

The IHSAA girls basketball semistate pairings for next weekend have been announced. Class A No. 1 Marquette (25-2) will play at the La Porte Semistate against No. 4 Northfield (25-2) at noon on Saturday. The 4A semistate matchup between No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern (25-1) and No. 4 Crown Point (28-0) will follow the Class A game. Class 2A No. 3 Oak Hill (23-4) vs. No. 1 Central Noble (27-0) will tip at the Logansport Semistate at 3 p.m., followed by Class 3A No. 11 Marion (23-4) vs. No. 1 Northwestern (25-3). In the south semistates, Class 2A Evansville Mater Dei (17-10) vs. No. 4 Winchester (25-3) will take place at Jeffersonville at noon, followed by Class 4A No. 19 Castle (23-4) vs. No. 10 Lawrence North (21-6). Class A No. 2 Vincennes Rivet (28-0) will face No. 3 University (24-2) at 3 p.m. in Jasper with Class 3A No. 2 Salem (23-3) vs. No. 7 Benton Central (26-4) to follow.

La Porte athletics schedule changes

The boys swim sectional originally scheduled at La Porte on Thursday and Saturday will now be at Chesterton High School. The Slicers JV and varsity boys basketball home games versus Goshen on Saturday will now be played on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Slicer Gym. La Porte will be one of the northern hosts for the girls basketball semistate on Saturday.

Glenn boys hoops drops pair to NIC foes

John Glenn’s boys basketball team fell 60-44 to South Bend Adams at home on Thursday night. Carter Yung guided the Falcons with a game-high 21 points, including putting the team on his back in third quarter as Glenn cut the deficit to nine. Glenn got outscored 33-21 after the break.

On Friday night, Glenn lost 77-51 at South Bend St. Joseph. John Drews had the best performance of his career, nailing three 3-pointers to lead the Falcons (10-9, 3-6 Northern Indiana Conference) with 11 points. Gabe Weiss recorded 10 points. Glenn trailed 20-10 after the first quarter.
