Meredith Gulstrom, 80, of Michigan City passed away peacefully with her family around her on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Franciscan Health - Michigan City.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home and on Thursday from noon until 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Meredith was born Sept. 23, 1938, in Randolph, Wisconsin, to the late George and Pearl Ione (Blochwitz) Stavropoulos. Also preceding her in death are her step-mothers, Barbara Coslet Stavropoulos and Ruth Bremer Stavropoulos.

On July 19, 1958, in Chesterton, Indiana, she married Kent F. Gulstrom who passed away on June 18, 2014.

Surviving are three children, Tim (Becky) Gulstrom, Melissa (the late John) Morse and Jeff (Debbie) Gulstrom; five grandchildren, Scott, Ashley and Rachel Gulstrom and Austin and Lucas Morse; one great-grandchild, Paislee Faith; seven brothers and sisters, Susan (John) Keiser, Judith (Gene) Miller, Denise (Bill) Barkow, Janice (Todd) Rudnick, Cynthia Alfrey, Lisa (Bruce) Krause and George Stavropoulos Jr.; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, Christopher, Gary and Carlton Stavropoulos.

Meredith was a retired preschool teacher from Children's Village after many years of service to the children in our community.

She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church in Michigan City and was a member of the women's clubs and taught nursery school there for 35 years. She was also a member of the Dunes Country Quilters, Gourmet Quilters and loved playing bunko with her friends. She was a very craft minded person who loved to quilt, paint, cross stitch and do other crafts to use as gifts for family and friends. She never met a stranger and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
