Pictured here is the Chicago – New York Electric Air Line Railroad car #102, built in 1907. The Air Line electric railroad was an ambitious project that was to connect New York to Chicago in 10 hours, but ended a failure due to the high cost. Construction began on Sept. 1, 1906 at La Porte. The completed portion ran only 17.5 miles on its own main line track, from La Porte to Goodrum in Porter County. For information regarding this photo, contact mbarber@laportecountyhistory.org.
