Remember When

Michigan City’s Franklin Square with Diana Shops and Schiff’s Shoes, circa 1969. Franklin Square, a city park and pedestrian shopping area covering the 500-900 blocks of Franklin Street, was completed in 1969. By the 1980s, the majority of the residents wanted the square torn out and the street restored. In the early 1990s, Franklin was opened up to one-way traffic but it did not bring the revitalization that was hoped. For information regarding this photo, contact mbarber@laportecountyhistory.org.
