La PORTE — The city’s planned transformation of the Stone Lake shoreline is one step closer to groundbreaking.

At its meeting Wednesday, the La Porte Park and Recreation Board approved the final plans for a series of improvements – including a new .8-mile multiuse trail – to a portion of the coast running along Lake Shore Drive. With the board’s stamp of approval, the park department is looking to place the $887,000 project up for bid next month, to start construction of the lakeside trail beginning in the spring/summer.
