MICHIGAN CITY — A local teenager charged with the murder of 18-year-old Dereon Brown is now facing new felony counts in connection with the 2018 shooting.

Hakim Zamir Lamar Qualls, now 18, appeared via Zoom video conference in La Porte Superior Court 1 on Thursday, at which time the judge granted the state’s request to add charges against him of attempted murder, aggravated battery and criminal recklessness to the original counts of murder and dangerous possession of a handgun.
