WANATAH – The winner of the 2019 La Porte County District Spelling Bee will be determined on Monday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. at Westville High School, 207 E. Valparaiso St., Westville.
Students from 23 area schools will go head to head as they compete to be named the La Porte County District spelling bee winner. The La Porte County District Spelling Bee is sponsored by Kankakee Valley REMC, a local electric utility cooperative.
Students from grades 3 through 8 will be in attendance at the bee on Feb. 25.
At the conclusion of the competition, three students will be awarded trophies for first, second and third place. These students, along with seven additional top spellers will advance to the next round of competition, the Regional Spelling Bee.
The La Porte County District Spelling Bee is the first of two local competitions that feed into the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C in May.
The Kankakee Valley REMC Regional Spelling Bee, will be held on March 14 at Wheeler High School in Valparaiso. This competition will feature those top 10 students from the La Porte County District Spelling Bee along with the top 10 spellers from the Lake/Porter County District Spelling Bee.
One winner from this bee will be awarded with an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. where they will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
