Agricultural giants

A proposed Rumely/Allis Chalmers museum could feature items such as these Rumely Oil Pull Tractors. H-A File

LA PORTE — The Rumely Co. and Allis Chalmers are long gone but their legacies in agriculture and impact still lingering here today could be given new life.

La Porte area officials are moving forward on plans to build a museum dedicated to the former agricultural giants.

Are we going to tell about the mess and devistation this company left when they pulled out of town? The many financial hardships that were caused by A.C. that are still here today? Not to mention the enviromental mess that we are still dealing with now and in the future. If a museum is built it should tell the whole story how this Company killed LaPorte and hurt many families.

Yes, I have known Larry Ray for 50 years and he has one of the best collections of tractors and Oil Pulls. He also has 'connections' with many other owners that may just want to see their tractors on display in a museum.

I hope they get this done. LaPorte needs it. I have an old Allis that I would gladley donate just to get it out of my barn.

hey al-get a life. sounds like you were one of those people who could not find a job for 25 years after they left 'cause nothing paid enough and you actually might have to work. someone like you always has to spit in the punch bowl.

''Wow'' I have done very well since AC left but my town has fallen deeper into that hole that they left in many workers hearts. For this town to erect a museum about these people I think future generations need to know the whole story. The enviromental mess will go on for years to come and thats a shame.
