MICHIGAN CITY — Consumer and activist groups are universally displeased with a request by several Indiana utilities to try and recoup losses from the COVID-19 pandemic through possible future rate hikes.

In a petition filed with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, NIPSCO, Indiana Michigan Power Company and several other utilities asked to be able to defer their expenses from the pandemic, including the loss of revenue from lower electric demand, and make up the losses by charging consumers.
