La PORTE – The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) will be in concert July 3 at 8:30 p.m. EDT at Lions Park in New Buffalo, Michigan followed by fireworks over Lake Michigan. This event, sponsored by The Pokagon Fund and the New Buffalo Business Association, will be freeand open to the public.
This marks the fifth year the LCSO will be in concert on this date in New Buffalo.
“This is a real treat for the LCSO as we get to celebrate, through music, our Independence Day. We are honored that The Pokagon Fund and the New Buffalo Business Association have invited us to return for a fifth time,” said Tim King, executive director of the LCSO.
Guest conducting this concert will be Bob Bernhardt who is presently the Principal Pops Conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony, The Louisville Orchestra and the Chattanooga Symphony. In addition, he is a regular guest conductor with the Edmonton Symphony in Canada and has guest conducted the Boston Pops every year for the past 30 years.

The July 3 program includes selections by John Philip Sousa, George M. Cohan and John Williams. Also featured will be a medley from Oklahoma! as well as music from The Lion King and Les Misérables. The LCSO will present the “Armed Forces Salute” to end the first half and “Sing Out! America” sing along to end the second half. The LCSO will continue playing while the audience enjoys the post-concert fireworks over Lake Michigan. Tunes will include Sousa’s “The Stars & Stripes Forever” and Williams’ “Star Wars” Theme.
